SITE FEE: $7
Location: Blackbird State Forest, Tybout Tract
502 Blackbird Forest Road,
This year's theme dealing with both "Death" and "Taxes", is Piracy. Pirates certainly were forced to kill resisting crew who would not hand over the gold when asked as a tax for continued existence, right? I'm open to suggestions for next year too.....
There will be a "pirate garb" contest Saturn'sday evening about an hour after dark, the camp will be cried about a half hour before the contest to give everyone a chance to change into garb and with the exact location to gather. There will be pieces of eight and doubloons for the winners and other "coins" for the rest of the crew that do not win. "Pirate garb" can be as much a "statement" as actual costume. If, for example, you decide to do a period that has little or no documentation, you can call it based on other factors from the chosen period and or place. If you want to be a bronze age pirate, go for it, if you want to be a somali pirate that's cool too (but if seals get you.....), or a computer pirate in your street clothes... er, wait.... I guess that's OK too, but really lame.
The fighting will be the usual bag of tricks; bridge, field, woods, resurrections, team tourney, etc. There will also be some odd Pirates vs. type battles including vs. peasants and another grabbing plunder.
Site fee will be $7 for the war, one day or the weekend, the porta johns must be paid for..... As in the past, if you bring a new person who has never been to ANY Markland events both of you will get in free on a one on one basis. So bring a friend, there will be extra loaner gear available and there are always weapons to play with as well.
There will be a Council meeting at the war on Sunday at noon. Those arriving for the meeting only will not be charged site fee.
