Fall War Summary

Daytime temperatures in the sixties and nights that felt more like late spring made for a great backdrop to Fall War this year. Once again at Blackbird forest, the camping area was much improved over that of Death and Taxes war, with far less hacking away of the undergrowth needed to setup camp.

The battlefield area not only featured a wooden pavilion area with tables for the spectators, but a variety of terrain that the reeves put to good use. Along with regular field battles, Control point and capture the flag scenarios led later in the day to the "Bone" tourney. Several one on one battles eventually led to the losing side joining forces with the victors until we were down to two teams, each with a warlord. Eventually Adam from the Order of the Lost Boys was left the final recipient of the bone at the end of several rounds of fighting.

Later in the day, Mama Lightman set forth an official challenge to King Angus for the Crown of Markland which was accepted on his behalf by those Lost Boys who were present. Details on the upcoming Crown War are to follow as they are available.

Saturday evening's festivities included many Marklanders in costumes, both mundane and period to celebrate Halloween, and an impromptu sake party which made for much drunken singing into the night.

All in all a great War and a great way to end the camping season, Thanks to those who hosted Fall War for a great event!

--Genjiro Tenmakutsukuri
MKA Gabriel de la Vega
Archer of Rivenwood
Tentmaker

Fall Council Meeting This Weekend!

Greetings, all!

Don't forget - the Fall Council Meeting is this Saturday at the Bear, Delaware Library - as listed in the Calendar of Events. Start time is 1:00, and we will be done before (hopefully long before!) 4:45. Included on the Fall Council agenda is always a call for new proposals concerning any of the martial rules.

Council Meetings are always open to current members of Markland, and each Official Group (along with the collective body of independent membership) has 2 votes to cast. Quorem (half plus one) in attendance is required to validate all voting at Council Meetings...so don't let us down! Come help fix what may irk you...or forfeit whining rights until the next installment of Markland Corporate!

-MB

Celtic Fire 8 - Destroy All Celts

Celtic Fire 8 was a remarkable event. The weather was divine, high of 75, low of 60, and the rain gave us a rare Markland reprieve. Friday, found the site invaded early and often, with friends coming as far as the Pocono Mountains. . . . The fighting on Saturday was varied and someone was heard to exclaim, “We have more scenarios than people!” Fighting started in the mountain pass, and the battle almost resembled paintball as people dived and ducked from barrier to barrier. . . . Next we fought in the castle, and pitted fighters to ring the gong and make the peacocks scream. . . . As darkness fell, the sound of overworked bottle openers could soon be heard for miles. The Galatians held a ceremony and took two new Pledges, Equinus and Bellovesus. . . . Galatia extends thanks to everyone who attended.

Feast of the King's Tax --Review--

Fighting began a little late, as for usual Markland Standard Time (MST). Sir Snorie Outhausescreamer (Knack) became Spring Queen's Champion for a second time. Critter won both Peasant's Champoin as well as the bar fight. In Tug of War, rag-tagTeam Modo Awesome lead by Rusty of OGL and DK of Scarlet Cross beat Team Lost Boys in a double elimination tournament. Horse shoes saw the up-set of previous two year victors ex-king Kennneth (Todd) and Felix the Crab (Cory) by old S.C. Warlord Franky and his cousin AJ, who might I add, played amazing bag pipes for us.

Inside, the feast was a lot of fun. Natalia (Gina) ate for free due to a song she sang about ours truly. Believe me when I say I knew nothing about it; brought a tear to my eye. Lorretta sang a wonderfuly 18th century style song she wrote herself, as well as the pirate lasses of Crimson Coast, Catalina (Deddie) and Sohipa also sang a beautiful duette. Poor Herman (Ted) the German was interrupted by me during his performance and received half a free meal on my behalf. The lovely ladies of Desert Lotus Belly Dancing Troupe floated along the floor leaving us all wanting more. As much as we walk the walk, seems most Marklanders, including myself, forget how to dance the dances. Though that didn't stop us from enjoying the Maltese and Horse's Brawl. I can say there wasn't much in the way of left overs so the changes to the menu must have gone over well. I know the ice cream with "Apple Stuff" was a sucess.

Thank you everyone who attended and I will see all of you again soon.
Matteo Del Ruocco of Scarlet Cross

Despite several members cancelling at the last minute, three intrepid Hospitallers made the trip down to Jamestown for their second Military Through the Ages. The weather was warm and sunny during the day, which was very MTA-like, although they still managed to squeeze in some rain on Saturday night. The Hospitallers made a big impression this year. Even though we are only in our second year of existence we managed to come in first place in three out of four competitions:

Three Blue Ribbons
Best Cooking (cold steel category)
Best Camp (cold steel category)
Best Costume (overall)

Thanks to Natasha, Steve, and Sean for their hardwork and determination in making the Knights Hospitaller camp a success. Come see us at Marching Through Time, April 19th or 20th.
